Google’s Pixel Watch 3 has surpassed predictions by introducing a never-before-seen feature on any other wearable so far.
Google’s summer has heated up with the recent announcement of their latest Pixel devices. The spotlight is on the new ‘Pixel 9 series’ and Pixel Watch 3. The Pixel 9 phones have undergone a significant redesign, whereas the Pixel Watch 3 remains largely unchanged, albeit now available in two sizes.
However, Google has given the Pixel Watch 3 a unique edge with the introduction of a novel feature unseen in wearables until now – detection of pulse loss.
The Pixel Watch 3 introduced a surprise feature that had not been leaked prior to its unveiling. I hope that this sets a precedent for other brands, particularly Apple, to incorporate similar features in their wearable devices, considering its potential to save lives.
The launch of the Apple Watch in 2015 marked the advent of a new era in wearables. Prior to this, simple activity trackers such as Fitbit were prevalent. While these devices were effective for tasks such as step and calorie counting, exercise tracking, and heart rate monitoring, they were not yet sophisticated enough to be categorized as a smartwatch.

Subsequent upgrades have seen the inclusion of ECG, fall detection, SpO2 monitoring, and temperature sensors. The Apple watch provides additional attributes, such as its depth gauge and water temperature sensors.
In recent times, it appears that Apple’s pace of introducing big, impactful features to the Apple Watch has slowed down. The series 9 didn’t bring any significant upgrades from their predecessors apart from the new S9 chip, and increased storage capacity.
Concurrently, Samsung has introduced the feature to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Their recent products have also incorporated sleep apnea tracking, and a method to monitor your body’s aging progression using the AGEs metric.
In response, Google is now incorporating Loss of Pulse Detection into the Pixel Watch 3, a novel feature not previously observed on a wearable device. Given these strides by its rivals, Apple must enhance its product features. Read More
